ECR Berlin 2008 – Creating substainable shopping value

2008-08-19
A few years ago a consulting company urged supply chain partners to "collaborate or die". Well the stakes just got upped to "save the planet or die".

PipeChain participated in the ECR 2008 conference held last May in Berlin, in order to promote our supply chain collaboration solution for consumer packaged goods and understand the future trends and needs of this segment.

What is evident is that changes are happening fast! Since a year ago there is a question that has gained such urgency and relevance that it became the "theme" for this year's conference. The industry leaders have identified the need to respond to the consumers concerns on SUSTAINABILITY.

As consumers, we are becoming increasingly aware of the impact our lifestyle has on our environment and this concern is now being fed back to the suppliers of the goods we consume. We not only expect them to manufacture and supply these goods in an innovative and efficient manner, we now also seek guarantees that this is being done in a manner that is sustainable from the environmental perspective.

This is not just a trend or technology that we may choose to implement or not. It is a fundamental question that affects our behavior and expectations as consumers and in turn how these "needs" are perceived by those who are in the business of satisfying our demands. Exactly how this fundamental question is tackled "on the ground" by each and every one of us is another story, but at PipeChain we have some ideas on what to do to make your supply chain more efficient and sustainable.
